UniCredit Bank offers secure online payments to merchants

The new E-commerce UCB service from UniCredit Bank allows merchants to accept payment cards on their websites. The main advantage is the reduction of security risks both for cardholders and merchants. This service is based on a 3D Secure technology standard, which is supported by the two largest international card associations, MasterCard and VISA.

Many existing online payment methods do not usually require additional security mechanisms to protect transmitted data in addition to standard SSL protocol. However, UniCredit's new E-commerce UCB service further enhances the security of the transaction for both merchants and their clients. "When paying online, cardholders provide their card details to a secure payment gateway selected by Unicredit Bank -- the GP Webpay payment gateway, provided by Global Payments Europe, a recognized leader in the payments industry and a trusted third party which processes payments for the major card brands, including MasterCard and VISA " said Tereza Kuklikova, Manager of Acquiring of UniCredit Bank, regarding the security system. "With 3D Secure technology, merchants have no access to any of the cardholder's transmitted card payment data, receiving simply the confirmation about the performed transaction from the gateway. This helps to further reduce risk and provide enhanced protection to merchants and their clients during the online payment process."

Providing online payments offers many benefits to both merchants and their customers: For example, in comparison with other methods such as "cash on delivery." The merchant receives information about the payment immediately, significantly speeding up the approval and ability to ship. Also, cash flow is improved and problems related to ordered, but unclaimed and unpaid goods, are eliminated. Additionally, since the E-commerce UCB payment gateway meets the latest 3D Secure standard, merchants significantly reduce the risks of cardholder disputes from online payments. "If merchants do not use E-commerce with 3D Secure standard, they may be required to pay for the costs associated with cardholder disputes," added Tereza Kuklikova. "In contrast, by using UniCredit's E-Commerce UCB service, they may experience an increase in online sales as their customers gain additional confidence in secure shopping via the Internet."

"Global Payments is very proud to have been chosen by UniCredit to help them meet the evolving needs of their merchant customers by enhancing both the efficiency and security of the Internet sales channel," said James Hicks, President of Global Payments Europe. "Global Payments Europe's GP Webpay service enables merchants to significantly extend their sales scope by leveraging the Internet to reach the global marketplace, selling their goods around the clock in a safe and secure manner.
