UniCredit Bank’s clients saved hundreds of thousands of Czech crowns on withdrawals from ATMs abroad

Thanks to unification of the fees for withdrawals from ATMs in the Czech Republic and abroad, the clients of UniCredit Bank saved almost CZK 1.5 million on fees for withdrawals from UniCredit Group's ATMs abroad between July 2008 and April 2009. In total, the clients withdrew more than CZK 62 million from the Group's ATMs, the average daily withdrawn amount being CZK 6,093. The greatest numbers of discounted withdrawals were carried out in Slovakia, Italy, Russia and Germany. Regarding the total amounts withdrawn, Germany clearly led the way, followed by Slovakia and Italy.

"UniCredit Bank's clients have quickly become accustomed to the advantageously-priced foreign withdrawals from the Group's ATMs. Already during the first two months of summer holidays, nearly 3,000 withdrawals were made in the total amount of CZK 13 million," noted Jakub Dusílek, Director for Retail Segment & Product Management of UniCredit Bank. "The position of Croatia is a surprise, because, considering the popularity of that country among Czech tourists and the great number of nearly 600 ATMs of the local affiliate Zagrebačka Banka, I would expect it to stand in one the leading positions," Mr Dusílek added.

From 1 July 2008, UniCredit Bank has allowed its clients to withdraw cash from UniCredit Group's ATMs abroad under the same conditions as in the Czech Republic. For a majority of clients, this means they pay no fees for withdrawals. These are clients who use any of the Personal Accounts (except the POHODA account, for which it is CZK 9), Business Accounts or the Student Account. For the remaining clients, the fee was reduced from the original CZK 100 + 0.5% of the withdrawn amount to a mere CZK 5. This offer is unlimited in time and applies to more than 15,000 ATMs in 17 European countries of the UniCredit Group.

The greatest average withdrawn amount during the past 10 months (at CZK 15,280) was in Germany. An interesting thing is that the second greatest average withdrawal (at CZK 6,913) was in Kazakhstan. On the other hand, clients withdrew the smallest average amount (at CZK 2,675) in Bulgaria. Looking closer, it is becomes clear that the greatest numbers of withdrawals were in the neighbouring capital cities of Bratislava, Vienna, Budapest, and Warsaw. The greatest number of withdrawals from a single ATM was from that at Einstein Street in Bratislava (54 withdrawals).

UniCredit Bank's website provides a simple tool for searching the nearest ATM abroad belonging to the UniCredit Group: http://www.unicreditbank.cz/cz/kontakty/bankomaty-unicreditgroup.html.

By unifying the fees for withdrawals from ATMs within the UniCredit Group in the Czech Republic and abroad, the bank eliminated the considerable fee-related differences between card payments at stores and cash withdrawals. "This will allow our clients to reduce costs related to their holidays abroad or business trips," remarked Mr Dusílek, who also pointed out that the advantageous TRAVEL Basic insurance is automatically provided free of charge for all embossed UniCredit Bank debit cards. TRAVEL insurance includes coverage for medical expenses and accident insurance, along with insurance for personal items and luggage, above-standard assistance and legal services, and insurance in relation to water, winter and other sports.
